Shared Web Hosting That Uses Community Green Energy
As the Internet continues to grow at a tremendous rate
, this means that data centers are growing at a rapid rate too. Data centers are growing bigger to house more servers. You can be sure that these huge data centers are consuming a huge amount of power. The question is, are they using green energy as a sustainable power source?
The world is using more and more power as population continues to grow. The more people there are on this planet, the more power we consume. Traditionally, we rely on fuel sources such as oil and gas, which can be found in oil rich regions. Under any circumstances, such energy sources are limited. At the rate at which we consume energy, these energy sources will soon be depleted. The consequences are unthinkable.
In addition, the heavy use of oil and gas may cause planet Earth to grow warmer. When this happens, sea level rises and the climate becomes erratic and unsuitable for growing crops. Again, as inhabitants of this planet, we can't be free of these undesirable consequences. The ozone layer also continues to be damaged.
Data centers, if left unmonitored, may contribute to these problems by consuming huge amounts of oil based energy sources. Conveniently, there are people who are well aware of what is happening. What are a little possible solutions to global warming?
First, we must understand that it takes a lot of effort to overcome inertia. It takes a lot of time and resources for meaningful change to happen. People need to be educated and made aware of what is happening to this planet. People need to know that the energy that we are using today is limited, and will one day be depleted. People need to be made aware of the tragic consequences if that is to happen. All that takes time. But if we start early and allocate current resources to prepare for the future, we will be better prepared when oil based energy runs out.
Many hosting companies are going green, which means that they are hosting their servers in data centers that are powered by green, renewable energy (e.g. wind). These companies work hand in hand with government bodies to ensure that the data centers stay green and do not burden the planet with its incessant demands for power.
This is a good sign, and a clear signal that the authorities are finally taking the global warming issues seriously. Hosting companies feel that it is their responsibility to host with green data centers. As consumers, we should show our support for these companies. Together, we can help create a future that doesn't depend on a limited energy source. We will experience lasting and meaningful change only when everyone takes responsibility for their own actions.
