Shirdi To Delhi From The Land Of Sai To The Capital City

Shirdi, a small town in Maharashtra, is famous all over the world for its connection with the great Indian Saint, Shirdi Sai Baba

. Completely unknown till the 20th Century, Shirdi comprises an area of about 3 sq. km, and is situated in the Ahmednagar District of Maharashtra. It is through the Shirdi Sai Baba that Shirdi has earned a significant place as a popular pilgrimage destination of India. Interestingly, Shirdi is also known as the Land of Sai, and millions of devotees come here every year to pay their respects to the saint.

The distance from Shirdi to New Delhi is around 1247 km. Hence, the best means to travel from Shirdi to Delhi is by air. Since there is no airport in Shirdi, one has to fly to Nashik, the airport closest to Shirdi. Only a single air line operates in this route. Alternatively, going to Mumbai by road or rail from Shirdi and then flying from Mumbai to Delhi is also an excellent option to arrive from Shirdi to Delhi. Private A/C and non A/C buses are available to Nashik and Mumbai from Shirdi at a cost ranging from Rs 200 to Rs 400 per head, depending on the type of bus and seat selected. Another option is to hire taxi to Mumbai which cost about Rs 6,000.

Though there are no direct trains connecting both the places, one can travel from Shirdi to Delhi via Kopargaon or Manmad. These two stations are 14 and 55 kms respectively from Shirdi with direct train connections to and from New Delhi. For reaching Kopargaon or Manmad one can avail taxi (cost around Rs 50 to Rs 80) or bus (cost around Rs 15 to Rs 25) from Shirdi.

Some trains from Shirdi to Delhi via Manmed or Kopargaon are Punjab Mail, Swarna Jayanthi, Nizamudin Kolhapur Express Nizamudin Pune Super Express, Mangla Lakshadweep Express, Jhelum Express, Amritsar Nanded Express, Goa Express, Amritsarsr Dadar Express and Karnataka Express. On reaching Manmad, one can board the train from Manmad to Delhi. Share Taxis and auto rickshaws to Manmad from Shirdi are another option. Traveling in the night to Manmad from Shirdi by taxi will cost around Rs 500.

Traveling by train to Kopargaon from Shirdi is easy and less time consuming. It takes only 45 minutes to reach Kopargaon from Shirdi. Bus Service to Kopargaon from Shirdi is around Rs 20 per head. Alternatively, taxis can also be hired. For the adventurous, even driving down from Shirdi to Delhi is an option. It takes an average time of 19 hrs, to cover the 1247 km from Shirdi to Delhi, but this is not recommended to all as it is time consuming.
