Short Term Goals - A cure for low self esteem


If you do not know what your short term goals are, do not worry! Short term goals are usually goals that take anywhere from a week to a month to achieve.

You may be thinking about your "to do" list and chances are you are also thinking how you never seem to be able to cross off everything on it. You may even think of your list and feel guilty.

Feelings of guilt are indicators of low self esteem. You can change those feelings into positive ones in a few easy steps.

The Rules

1 Write your goals down. Studies show that writing your goals down helps you achieve them faster than just having a vague list in your head.

2 Setting a goal attracts what you are seeking. This simply means that once you focus on a particular goal, you are already imagining your self completing it.

3 Never allow anyone to set your goals for you. Goals that you have for your self must be ones that you truly want, not ones that others want for you.

4 Look at your goals often. You may not be aware of how powerful this can be. The simple act of looking at your goals many times a day allows for you to be aware of ways to reach them.

5 Do not set a dead line. This is a common mistake many people make. They assume that a goal must be reached at some random point in time. Often, this goal is not reached by the appointed time and you feel lowered self esteem again.

6 Do give yourself a time frame to complete your goal. This may sound like a contradiction but using a time frame of one week or one month is quite different than saying, "I will cross this goal off my list by next Tuesday". Things happen and you may need more time to complete your goal or you may complete it early.

7 Make your goal public. For short term goals it is important to let others close to you know you are working toward this goal.

8 Break your goal down into manageable pieces. If your goal requires action on the part of others, let them know. Often goals will require actions you did not anticipate but do try to brainstorm when planning on a goal for this possibility.

9 Stay on track. Do not ever deviate from achieving your goal. Never sabotage your goal via neglect.

10 Congratulate your self! Once you achieve your goal it is time to give your self a pat on the back. Hopefully your friends and family will too, but the most important person here is you so make sure you appreciate what you have done.
