Sleeve Up And Get Going

Have you ever wondered what would happen to your hands if you didn't protect them

from the winter cold? Have you ever wondered what will your feet say if you jogged in sneakers? Well all four of them would be very unhappy. From our very first doll to our first bike and our very first 3.000 dollar car we have been constantly advised to take care of us and our things. We needed to play nicely with our toys, use a condom, find a good parking space for the car, and wash it, wax it when it got dirty. Following these habits we grew up to discover that everything around us needed protecting: our house, our bike, our dog... our phone, our laptop... And this is where the sleeves come in hand.

Personally I own twelve, the basic twelve, as I don't get all of them. My laptop, my expensive shoes, my mattress, my dresses, each one has its own sleeve. It makes sense with the dresses and shoes, but what I don't get is the car cover. The guy who invented it must have had a lot of time on his hands. And so do the ones who actually use it. I mean, you have to unfold it, to get it over the car, to secure it, that's got to be at least half an hour of your precious life, every day. I don't know who and how did he conjure up the car cover but I do know who I have to thank for inventing the condom: the Asians. The best sleeve of them all and the oldest is said to have been used for the first time in ancient Asia, but it was the Italians who first documented the use of such a thing. It was in a treatise on syphilis written by Gabriele Falloppio.

The phone is the newest addition to our hands and we are most likely to damage it while using it rather that transporting it. The condom is the oldest of all sleeves, the big daddy, the chairman of the board. It has been around since ancient Asia, but it was one Italian Gabriele Fallopio who first documented it. It was in a treatise about syphilis and the condom was described as linen sheaths bound by a ribbon and soaked in a chemical solution.

I love my sleeves, I have the basic twelve, which include the ones for my laptop, my iPad and iPod or the one for my 300 dollar shoes. Plus, the dresses get one and so does the mattress. I love that my favorite kinds of food are kept fresh by special sleeves. I keep my documents in special sleeves and when I fly I have a special leather jacket that protects my passport and tickets. Right next to it sits my computer casing. You can easily damage your laptop while moving it around so a sleeve is the way to go when you're on the move. Sleeves can be smart. There are the ones that can withstand excessive heat or cold, or the ones that can be tersed against rough surfaced without suffering any degradation.

Sleeves are also good for your laptop, iPad or iPod. You can't move your laptop around as easily as a cell phone because it may get damaged by the other things housed in your purse or briefcase. There are smart sleeves made out of rainproof materials or even from ones that can withstand heat or friction with rough surfaces so you can take your laptop anywhere without any fears. There are sleeves that can keep your food fresh or others that protect your snowboard or even your bike.

Despite the fact that I don't get some sleeves I really believe that we grew dependent of them because they protect the things we need the most or care for: food, clothes, documents.
