Small Business Marketing - 10 Marketing Strategies You Should Be Implementing In Your Business
A lot of businesses have been cutting back their Marketing recently, and that's crazy! Considering we've just come out of one of the worst economic downturns ever recorded, we should be Marketing like mad, and trying to get as many new customers/clients as we can!
Which is why I've written this post; to highlight 10 Marketing strategies that you should be implementing, if you are serious about growth.
1. Email Marketing Emails are one of the most cost-effective ways of marketing to your database. You pay a simple monthly fee, and you can send as many emails as you wish to your customers. The best way to use Email Marketing is to try and add value to the reader; don't try selling too much. A good rule of thumb is to use the ratio 8:1 8 parts adding value, and 1 part selling. If you don't, someone else will.
2. Telephone Cold Calling Cold calling will always bring in new customers; and that's a fact. The fact is, though, that many people find it very difficult to actually get on the phones. This is a matter of confidence; try watching some videos on Youtube, or visit this website, and then have a go on the phone you'll be surprised how much difference it actually makes! Remember; cold calling is vital to your business. If you don't, someone else will.
3. Telephone Ringing Clients This is usually overlooked by many businesses. I can pretty much guarantee you that if you start calling them, you will be pleasantly surprised at the results. What few people realise is that your customers are crying out to be communicated with effectively. We all crave for someone to come along, solve our problems, and offer us great products, or a quality service. If you don't, someone else will.
4. Direct Mail One of the more traditional forms of Marketing, it is still quite effective. Think of it like this; there is no other form of Marketing that will allow your prospects to actually touch the advertisement. If you don't, someone else will.
5. Blogging Blogging is all the rage at the moment, and rightly so! It can fit nicely into your existing website, and serves as a help resource for you visitors. It can help them to understand a part of your product/service, or you can use it to pitch to your viewers. Either way, remember to keep it engaging. If you don't, someone else will.
6. Article Marketing If you are already writing a blog, Article Marketing is easy. You simply post your blog posts on Article submission sites, for example, ezinearticles.com, and you then get a link back to your website. Which means more SEO juice', and more traffic coming to your website! If you don't, someone else will.
7. SEO SEO is part of what's known as inbound marketing'. Basically, instead of you forcing upon prospects your sales pitch, they are actually looking for you! Which means much more targeted marketing! If you don't, someone else will.
8. PPC PPC stands for Pay Per Click; basically, you pay a search engine to be at the top of their results for certain keywords. Then, when someone clicks your link to go through to your website, you pay the search engine a certain amount of money; which is determined before you receive any clicks. This method is good for those who don't have the time to implement SEO, and usually has a very good return on investment. If you don't, someone else will.
9. Social Networking Social Networking is great for building the first few foundations of a business relationship. Whilst it may not become a good return on investment for a while, if built upon, it can be a great foundation for your overall marketing plan. The basic idea is that you simply communicate with your prospects, offering them value, until they are ready to be a client. If you don't, someone else will.
10. Video Video is becoming more and more popular with businesses. There are a couple of ways that you can use this; you can use it to create traffic, through Youtube or another video-sharing site, or you can use it to teach your readers on your website. A video will nearly always have more impact than a blog post, simply because some people may not want to read a blog post; a video is much simpler. If you don't, someone else will.
An important aspect of all marketing is testing. If you are not implementing some of these approaches, test it on a small scale; if it works, keep scaling it up. If it doesn't, bin it.
