The pain and suffering; the health problems; the smoking effects that could come your way if you don't quit. You won't hear that from me because either you have heard it all before and that's why you are reading this in the first place or, perhaps, you are someone who would prefer not to know and go to make a cup of coffee when any unpleasant advert comes on the TV. You know if it's you! Get ready to use your imagination: Imagine you are preparing a meal or a snack, go on, really imagine it. You're in the kitchen and you've got some ingredients in front of you. It may be that you would add herbs or spices to this meal or sauces or condiments to your snack but wait. Imagine instead that you have various bottles and jars on your kitchen counter and they are marked "carcinogens" "hydrocyanic acid" "creosote" "acetone" "ammonia" "formaldehyde""phenotrins" "carbon monoxide" "hydrogen cyanide"... there are over 4000 chemical components released when you smoke... but this time you are going to sprinkle this on your food... and the food of your loved ones. Go on, imagine it. If you would never sprinkle these poisons on your food then why do you take them into your body every day and spread them around in the air for others to ingest? Why would you ever suck poison through a tube but not sprinkle it on your food? Does it make any sense at all? No. Of course you wouldn't put poison on your food or in your drinks... of course you would never ever poison those you love... which is what you are doing little by little when you smoke. And don't jump on the "I only ever smoke outside" band-wagon. The chemicals stick to your skin, clothes and hair... they get on to your pillow... you cuddle up to your kids or your family. Just for once, really let yourself think about it and I'm sure this particular smoking fact will help you to increase your motivation to quit. Take your time to really think this one through and add it to your arsenal of tips and techniques from our series.
