Snowboarding Tips - How To Get Over The Fear Of Trying a New Snowboarding Trick
Good snowboarding tips are hard to come across. Most of them are aimed at advanced/intermediate riders, especially when it comes to snowboarding tricks, but luckily this article is here to change things! Fear is a MASSIVE part of snowboarding, as most aspects of snowboarding involve you overcoming fear. You may think fear is hard to overcome, I'm here to prove you wrong!
Learn from your Mistakes
As the old saying goes, learning from your mistakes is the best way to make progress, and this is also true when it comes to getting over your fear of trying a new trick!
If you know where you went wrong on a trick that wiped you out, then you know what NOT to do the next time. Even if your not aware of it, observing where you went wrong on a trick will make you more confident the next time you try it.
A snowball effect then occurs, because once you start to become aware of why you wiped out, you tend not to make that same mistake again, meaning you tend to be more successful on future occasions! What you'll find then happens, is that you aren't as fearful as you used to be.
Take One Small Step at a Time
Taking big leaps or risks in anything in life is usually very risky, and this is the same when it comes to the difficulty of snowboarding trick you attempt. You don't want to be trying to hit a 10ft jump right after you've only just mastered a 3ft one.
Why... because if you do wipe out, the damage your going to do to your confidence is going to be huge, and as a result, your probably going to be more fearful than you were before! However, if you were to take small steps to progress, you'll start to find that your level of fear for a trick/jump will reduce, simply because a small step-up isn't going to seem that different to your brain than a big step-up is!
Learn When To Back Down
Everything I have covered so far is about overcoming your fear by pushing your self to mental limits, but what I want to make sure you know is that you shouldn't be doing things that are crazy, just because you think that if you are successful at hitting a huge rail, your going to be successful at everything else. Effectively killing 2 birds with one stone.
NO, you need to know when enough is enough! Unfortunately, this can very hard to measure, simply because when your in the zone and your bloods pumping, your going to feel more up for it than if you were to take a step back and reflect.
One rule I'd always suggest is that take a look at the riders also trying it... if they seem like the type that are of a much higher riding ability that you, you know your pushing your luck in attempting the trick!
However, if you follow everything else above this section, you shouldn't even be in the situation where you need to say enough is enough! If you don't decide to back down and attempt a trick that is way to hard for you, all your going to do is end up falling or crashing, and overall increasing your fear for future sessions!
