So You Are Thinking About Trying To Rent Houses
There are a few things that you should know before you get involved in trying to rent houses
. There are some questions that you will want to ask the landlord, and other things that you will want to look into before you make your decision.
Budgeting
The first thing you are going to want to do is to sit down and figure out exactly what you are able to afford for rent each month. This is the single most important thing to know because there is a possibility that you will get your heart set on a house and find out from the landlord that your income is not high enough to meet the requirements of renting that house. There is also the possibility that you are approved to rent houses that are out of your budget range and then you end up not being able to fulfill your lease and that can be held against you on your credit making it hard to rent houses anywhere again.
Make a List
The next thing you are going to want to do when setting out to rent houses is to make a list of what you are looking for in a home. How many bedrooms do you need? How many bathrooms? Do you need a garage? These are all important things to know before you start looking at houses so that you don't end up in a lease on a house that you are not happy with at all.
Examine the House
Anytime you start the process to rent houses, one of the things that you should do is to go look at any possible house. When you are looking at the house, there are some things that you are going to want to look for. Are there any signs of pests? Mouse droppings? Remnants of insects of any kind? This is very important because if there are signs that they have been here before then it is just a matter of time before they come back once someone is living in the house again.
Another thing to examine when looking to rent houses is the house itself. Do you see any signs of damage to the building? Damage to the foundation? Damage to the roof? Are all of the included appliances in proper working order? This means the refrigerator if it comes with one, the furnace, the water heater, anything at all that is included. A landlord should leave the utilities on at the house long enough to show any prospective tenants that all of these things do work. If the utilities are not on, then there is a possibility that the landlord is trying to hide that one of these is not functional.
The bottom line is to make sure that you use common sense when you are looking to rent houses. Think about what all could be wrong with the house, and then think about what all could be done to hide anything that might be wrong. This will help you to know what all to look for in trying to figure out if there is anything about the house that is not up to par. Know what you need out of your house and more importantly know what you can afford. If you do all of these things then you will be well prepared when going to rent houses.
