Some others recommend pregnant women not to sew or walk during the time of Solar Eclipse 2010 in India by saying that such actions will harm the child in the womb or the fetus may deform. The fact is all these things about solar eclipse are just the superstitious beliefs and none of these things are real.

In fact, we are lucky enough that this celestial wonder is happening in our period. It is very rare and scientists urged Indian's to shed out their false beliefs on solar eclipse. They advised not to watch the solar eclipse with necked eyes. It is advisable to watch the solar eclipse with the special device with experts.

About this solar eclipse, Indian People should have common knowledge. Solar eclipse is nothing but a moon and sun lies in a same line but the moon shadow is smaller when compared to sun. It appears like the moon shadow is inside the sun that exactly seems like Ring of Fire'. This opportunity we get only once in our life time and this solar eclipse is very much attractive to watch as well.

Although not proven scientifically, some religions believe that pregnant women should stay indoors during a solar eclipse to prevent the baby from developing birth defects.

Hindus also believe that water becomes undrinkable and food becomes inedible.

There are somany mysterious events even today happening around the world for which there is no convincing answer from the science...Likewise, for our each & every dhaarmic ritual, one should not expect us to give justification from the scientific perspective when science itself has its own boundaries of limitation & limited scope.

A simple & straightforward answer to the question why we should not eat during elipse time, is that eclipse period considered as 'taamasa' period and during this period one should not take any food because the food eaten during this period would invigorates the 'tAmasa guNa' (misdirected malicious & vicious thoughts) and may cause the untoward turbulations in our mind. That is the reason why during grahaNa, we the hindu-s do chant god's name, meditate, do japa etc. etc. Ofcourse, there is no effective instrument available in the field of science to determine the exact repercussions of taking food during eclipse. We should always remember that there is some merit behind all these observations in hindu tradition though we cannot give convincing scientific explanations. And I also believe that, being a hindu, who prefers to follow our sacred scriptures & our ancestors, donot have to satisfy the demands of science. For us, shAstra is the only pramANa (valid proof of means) to observe these disciplines during the eclipse period. And this pramANa is self sufficient for me to follow the formalities with utmost shraddhA & bhakti.
