An xd memory card is a solid state storage device that is used to store data electronically. The XD originally stood for eXtreme Digital, which is what the first manufacturers of these products called this line. The companies Fujifilm and Olympus are the only two companies that have the technological right to use these type of storage devices. Even though these cards are essentially like every other data storage device available for camera in the market, they have one added advantage of being compatible with the panorama picture taking ability that Olympus digital cameras possess. This technology can be used only with Olympus cameras since the company disables this ability and only then does it sell these cards to other competitors as a means of drawing customers to purchase all of their xd memory card needs from Olympus and its sister organisations.
