There are many ways to see if you need roof repairs by checking the shingles on your house or building

. Looking inside the attic can give you some other clues when inspecting the roof for leaks and damage. Some leaks can be fixed with very little effort by using roofing tar to patch it up. A few repairs might require putting in a new vent for your roof or it may need to have new shingles on it.

There are several things to look for when inspecting your roof. One thing you might want to check for is damaged shingles. Just use a ladder and get on the roof so you can see all the roofing area. Check to see if the shingles are cracking or missing. If they are, you might want to get them replaced the first chance you get. You can do this yourself if you know how to do it properly but if not you should call a professional for this kind of repair.

Another place to check for any damage is in the attic of the house. When climbing up in this area bring sufficient light with you and start looking around. Some good places to check is around the vent pipes or any other item that goes through the roofing, such as a chimney. Also check the valleys or places where two roofs intersect

Look for water marks or streaks on any wood or insulation this will give you a clue if there is any water that has been leaking in. You can also look for mold as a sign of water leaking.

If you notice any small leaks you can try to repair it yourself if you are capable. All you need to do is locate where the water is coming in. Once this is done, get out of the attic and climb on the roof. Using roofing tar, patch where the water is coming in from. Do not be afraid to apply a decent amount of tar to the leaking area to completely seal the hole. You can buy roofing tar from any home improvement store.

If you have a real bad roof it may need to be replaced, this is a simple task for someone who does it all the time but it is still really hard work. When replacing the shingles you can expect to see them being taken off the house. The way this is done is by scraping the shingles off with a shovel or pitchfork onto the ground below. A lot of the time a tarp is laid down on the ground to make clean up fast and easy while keeping nails and debris from being in your grass.

There are many types of repairs for your roof but an extreme repair would be roofing it all over again. In order to do this your old roofing would have to be taken off. This is called tearing a roof off and it could often be done in a day or two depending on the house.

These vents are to help keep your shingles from overheating and pealing up. This will help make your shingles last the at least the length of the warranty and prevent other roof repairs from happening too often.
