Some Women Inventors and Inventions which were Scientifically Important
Marie Curie is a well known name and we all are well aware of her inventions in the field of science
. She along with her husband made significant discoveries in the field of radioactivity. She and her husband together discovered two new elements named radium and polonium. It was also discovered that the x-rays generated from these elements had the capacity to destroy tumors. This information turned very useful for doctors in the field of medical science. She received Nobel Prize for her this invention that she shared with her husband.
Valerie Thomas invented the futuristic illusion transmitter. It was used to improve the quality of the images that appear on the television. The main aim was to create an illusion where a person would feel that the images are present inside the room in live form. Though this philosophy was extremely popular and widely used in movies, Valerie Thomas made effort to do the same in the world of television. For the same she received a patent for this invention in the year 1980.
PhD in electrical engineering from Standford University Ellen Ochoa was the first to discover an optical system that was used to detect any kinds of defects or imperfections in a repetitive pattern. This was a very important invention that was used to measure quality of various things in a manufacturing unit. For this she earned a patent to her name. Another invention that earned her a patent was for an optical system which was used in order to make things in a robotic manner or it could also be used as a guidance system for robotic activities. Also an astronaut she is one of the few scientists who managed to spend a total of 719 man hours in space. Her inventions are definitely some that have given women inventors and inventions a boost.
Betty Rozier and Lisa Vallino, the duo got recognition for their important invention of creating intravenous shield for catheters which would make the process of using an IV a lot easier. The main aim behind this invention was to prevent the needle of the IV from getting dislodged or dislocated and to prevent any form of tampering with the IV. The mother-daughter duo earned a patent for their invention in 1993.
Another important invention was made by Alice Parker. She invented a new gas heating furnace which had the capacity to provide better quality of heating as compared to other systems that were being used since 1919.
Krisztina Holly made another very important invention in the field of science. She was the first one to produce a computer hologram with complete color reflection. In addition she is also the creator of the stylus which allowed any customer to place an order for goods using a bar code scanner. But she shares the credit for this invention with other scientists like Michael Cassidy and John Barrus. Women inventors and inventions have proved their worth over the years and we are sure they will be doing the same in the years to come.
