The PSP is a small handheld console. It features a 16:9 format LCD screen, the first of its kind in portable gaming. This screen, although small, displays games with incredible detail and clarity. It has stereo speakers with different left and right channels. You have a control pad, an analog nub, four face buttons and two shoulder buttons for controlling the system and playing games. Some might recognize the control scheme to be similar to that of the PS1 and PS2, and suffice to say, it works very well for the PSP. The PSP also comes with a chargeable battery that can last from 3 to 5 hours depending on use. The system also features the ability to connect to a wireless network to browse the internet or even download games.

The games come in UMD's (Universal Media Disc) that are loaded through the back. UMD's are small encased CD's with a little slit for reading data. They're sturdy and very well protected so you don't have to worry about scratching the discs when you take them out, put them in or even store them for later use. While it does sound convenient, it's not without its flaws. The PSP's UMD reader reads slower than a normal DVD player would. Some games can suffer long loading times because of this. The PSP can also make a scratchy noise when reading from the disc. It's perfectly normal, but can be noticeable at times.

The graphics are excellent for a portable gaming system. This tiny little thing is more powerful than the original PS1 and almost as powerful as the PS2. It's hard to imagine that it could play 3D games but it really does. It has a healthy selection of games of all genres for all ages. Some of the bigger names in its library include famous titles such as Monster Hunter, Tekken, Metal Gear and even Final Fantasy. PSP gaming has changed portable games from a way to pass the time to a full-fledged gaming experience.

The PSP is a great portable system, but that is only half of this PSP review. Ii is said that the PSP set the new standard. This is because the PSP is not just a gaming system; it's a true multimedia device. By connecting it via a cable to your computer or wirelessly to the internet, the PSP can download images, music and videos and play them on the go. You don't need a separate MP3 player or a digital video player, the PSP can do what those things can, and play your games. The PSP's storage capacity is determined by its memory stick. The memory stick is interchangeable and can be as small as 4 megabytes to as large as 32 gigabytes so you don't have to worry about running out of space.

The PSP is an excellent purchase. By buying the gaming system, you get a portable MP3 player, a digital video player and an internet browser for free in one package. Adding to that the excellent library of games available, you'll find that the PSP is something you'll always be bringing wherever you go.
