Specialty Ehrs
Be it any professional field today, people all around the world have the luxury of a multitude of options to choose from
. They want solutions that not only help in enhancing productivity but also eventually aid in saving time. Recently, during a discussion with one of my colleagues, he said One of the major things that we need to understand is that it is due to the advent of specialized tools that we see tasks becoming easier, productivity increasing, and time being saved. Well, I certainly couldnt concur less.
Lets take health IT as an example. We have all heard about specialty
Electronic Health Records (EHRs). Gone are the days when only generic solutions were offered, and users had to fight the battle of getting accustomed to excessively redundant features. Along with hampering physicians productivity, this eventually limited the number of benefits for them. According to a recent study, the productivity of physicians using multi-specialty EHRs declined by 25-33%.
Having realized the needs of physicians, several established EHR vendors dedicated themselves towards designing specialty specific
EHR solutions for various specialists such as cardiologists, dermatologists, oncologists, etc.
One of the major benefits of specialty EHRs is that providers do not have to spend multiple hours in learning the application. These solutions are designed to provide the physicians with built-in specialty specific templates and components. In fact, these solutions also allow users to configure templates themselves. So technically, the provider does not have to deal with unnecessary components and templates, he can choose to set them according to his requirements.
A specialty EHR gives you an integrated library of templates to work with. Of course this eradicates the burden of creating templates and saves time. said a Massachusetts based cardiologist.
Another reason why physicians prefer specialty EHRs is that they significantly reduce the number of probable errors . Although EMRs were designed to provide healthcare professionals with simplified platform for documenting encounters and also help them save time, which they could eventually spend on improving the quality of care, generic EMRs were rigid in that respect. This is how the need for specialty EMRs materialized.
