St Louis Mma - Training For Success

No holds barred fighting has been around since the beginning of time

. However, modern day cage fighting, or Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) as it's also known, has been active in Europe, Japan, and the Pacific Rim since the early 1900s. It was imported to America in 1993 when the Ultimate Fighting Championship was started by the Gracie family. In the beginning it was a pretty brutal sport that resulted in several severe injuries. Today, rules have been put in place to protect fighters. One of the best ways to protect yourself, though, is to get yourself into tip top shape by training at a St. Louis MMA gym.

At a St. Louis MMA gym, you will learn the different fighting styles needed to compete effectively in the arena. Not only will you learn moves that will help you put on an impressive offensive but you'll also learn how to defend against moves your attacker may use against you in the ring. For example, at Absolute Martial Arts you'll learn kickboxing, wrestling, and boxing. At St. Louis' Kickboxing they teach Muay Kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and Karate. You'll also work with a sparring partner so that you can practice what you have learned as well as gain firsthand experience as to what it is like to actually fight. Watching a fight and actually being in one are two totally different things.

Outside of the training you get at a gym, you should also work on other aspects of your physical fitness. Specifically, you should work on increasing your endurance, strength, and agility. When you are in the ring you will need the energy to last longer than your opponent. You will also need the strength to make your strikes count and the agility to dodge blows from your attacker. Therefore, you should make time to do cardio and strength training workouts. If you don't want to be stuck in a St Louis MMA gym all day, you can take your workout outside, such as taking a run through the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial park.

Even if you don't plan on participating in any St. Louis MMA tournaments, it is a good idea to learn some of the moves the fighters used. Mixed Martial Arts is an excellent discipline that will help you learn how to defend yourself in the real world. Just be certain to hook up with a quality school and take your time learning all you need to know to be an effective fighter.
