Starcraft 2 Elite Guide - Assumptions To Make When Scouting Zerg
Learning to Scout can be what separates the good players from the bad in Starcraft 2. Most players know how to scout with Terran, Protoss, and Zerg, yet at the same time they have absolutely no idea what they are seeing other than the obvious. Today we're going to talk about certain assumptions you can make when playing as any race and scouting the Zerg.
"I scouted 6 drones and a Spawing Pool"
This nearly guarantees that your opponent is planning to do a quick Zergling / Speedling rush. If you see this you do want to bolster your defenses as you can expect to have between 10-12 Zerglings knocking at your door in the very near future.
"I scouted a Spawning Pool and one Extractor"
This generally leads to them going for an early mass Roach push or going for Speedlings. When the opponent is going Roaches you will want to counter this using Marauders for Terran and Immortals for Protoss. I generally see most zerg players use Roaches as a source of early pressure before teching to another strategy.
"I scouted 2 Extractors"
This usually means that they are going for a quick Lair Upgrade. You can definitely assume that your opponent planning to push Hydralisks and / or Mutalisks. I feel that this is the most common thing you will see scouting Zerg because a lot of people tend to stop cheesing when they learn how to play properly and Hydras as well as Mutalisks can be absolutely devastating to a number of units for all 3 races. Just remember if you see a Hydralisk den then counter with Zealots with charge and Colossi or High Templar with Protoss and Siege tanks and Marauders for Terran. If its Mutalisks you really want to build up your Anti-Air and try to keep your army by your mineral line because that's where the mutalisks are most likely going first.
"I scouted 1 base and noticed that they had 2 Queens"
While some Zerg players are absolutely Queen crazy this generally leads to planning an Expansion. Zerg players tend to stay 1 base ahead of their competition in order to stay even in terms of Army Value. If you scout the Queen before they get to expand then plan that timing push to stop them from expanding. Planting a Proxy Pylon / Barracks is a great way to keep the pressure on the Zerg.
