Which Starcraft 2 Race should I Play?
As a long term Starcraft 1 player, choosing a race to play in Starcraft 2 should have been easy, Right?
Well there are a few things you need to consider when choosing a race to play in Starcraft 2. First off, why should you pick a race in the first place? That's simple. Picking a race and sticking to it ensures that you're going to be able to win more games. If you hone your skills on a single race, your chances of winning dramatically increase. I have a friend who simply picks 'random' race all the time and my win loss ratio is almost triple his because I stick to a single race!
Lets take a quick look at the races.
Zerg.
The Zerg race prefer to swarm their enemies in vast numbers
At the moment, Zerg are what you could call the underdogs. They take the most skill to play, but that just adds to the level of excitement. Zerg rely mostly on having control of the map. The more Hatchery's( Main base) you have, the more drones you can produce.
Zerg are unique in that all of the offensive units come from their Hatchery, rather than specific buildings like the other races do.
Zerg rely heavily on creep. Zerg units move much faster while walking on creep, so it's vital that you have 'networks' of creep going to all your vital areas of the map so you can quickly move to and from location.
People who should play Zerg are people who are up for a fight, like to be the underdog or people who enjoy over running their enemies with vast numbers of units. Play Zerg if you're looking for fast action.
Terran.
Terran are what you could consider your standard RTS army. They're essentially what you'll find in a normal RTS army, soldier's vehicles such as tanks and air air units.
If you've never played Starcraft before, but have previous RTS experience, you'll most likely feel right at home with Terran. That combined with the fact that the single player story line teaches you how to play them makes for a great starter race.
Protoss
Protoss generally have stronger all round units, but aren't capable of pumping out units as fast as Zerg. Their standard unit, the Zealot, is capable of taking out a handful of Terran or Zerg single handily.
They're also a very defensive race. They're capable of setting up numerous turrets that are rather strong and are perfect for defeding.
People who should play Protoss are people who enjoys defending while slowly building up an army.
Once you've decided on a race you'd like to play, take a look at this Starcraft 2 Guide written by Shokz ( a high level Diamond player) to learn how to master that race and dominate every game you play. I gave this to a friend of mine and he quickly became Diamond rank, I highly recommend it.
