Health Reasons: I feel unhealthy in many ways. Take my breathing, it's difficult to breath easily with so much mucus in my respiratory system and I can't go for long without blowing my nose. Also my bad cough is very tiring and unattractive. On top of all of this I feel cold all the time - I think it must be all those millions of chemicals in my body from the cigarettes that are choking my body's circulation.
Financial Reasons: If I stopped smoking I would have enough to pay off my mortgage loan ten years earlier; With the money saved from cigarettes I could take that well deserved vacation in Hawaii that I've always wanted; I could help the child of that poor family to get the books and things he needs for school. My life would be so much better!
Family Reasons: It's true that I cause upset in my family because of my smoking; My spouse is constantly irritated with me about it; I want to show my kids that I can kick this bad habit and be the good role model that I want to be.
Vanity Reasons: I've seen people who've smoked for a long time and they have criss-cross lines and wrinkles all over their skin - I don't want to look like that! Also, my fingers and teeth look disgustingly brown - not to mention the foul smell of stale tobacco that clings to my clothes and everything I touch. And my bad breath is distancing me from family, friends and colleagues alike.
Hygienic Reasons: The stink of cigarettes is on everything I touch: my body, my clothes, my house, car, everything. I've become embarrassed even to give someone a present in case it smells bad. And no amount of washing is getting rid of it.
Now your reasons might be similar to the ones in the situations listed above. Continue and write down the ones that really move your feelings, and you'll know that you are on the right track.
