The easiest and cheapest way to get started in the business is to print some fliers up and deliver them. It's important that your flier be printed in full color and on a matte paper as that looks more professional (which gets more sales trust me).
Before you go deliver the fliers you should get a map of your town and divide it up into blocks where the expensive houses are (because they usually result in bigger jobs). Deliver your fliers to these neighborhoods first because you'll earn more money for every flier that you hand out.
Once the fliers are handed out you'll start to receive calls or emails from interested clients. Book them a consultation around their schedule. The consultation is actually pretty easy. The main goals are to figure out what your client wants and to get a deposit. That deposit is very important because it's what makes starting this business so cheap. All you need to do is print fliers and the deposits can pay for all your tools.
After the layout of the lights is decided and you have the deposit all you need is to schedule a date when you're actually going to do the work and do it. Than in January you'll need to schedule a time to take the lights down (make sure to include that in your quote!).
