Stay Away From Beer Making If Looking For A New Hobby

With lots of other possibilities for hobbies home beer brewing probably shouldn"t be a first option

. Spaces dedicated to home brewing everywhere you look are cluttered with all of the things brewers think they need. Large pots and fermentation bottles are taking up space in the corners of home brewers just waiting to be used once again. Refrigerators are full of little brown bottles just begging to be opened up. It is as though once involved in the hobby all other thoughts and occupations are forsaken and the endeavor takes over the entire house.

Here are just a few reasons you make not want to try making beer at home:

1.The part and parcel social status that comes with beer brewing can be harder to enjoy than first imagined: When the word gets out that you are a home brew master, and once friends have tasted just one of your batches of lager, you will constantly be pulled aside to give tips and answer questions. The questions will come from people you don't even know: When will your next batch be ready for tasting? Have you brewed that famous stout of yours lately? Can I watch and be your official taste tester? Would you make me a batch? The endless caravan of visitors to your house will stretch around the block. You"ll never get any time to yourself and forget the mental image of walking to your frig after a long, hard day to grab a cold one. That time alone you had dreamed about as you sat by the pool sipping your precious creation in peace and quiet will never happen.

2.The hobby will quickly turn from pastime to full time: Starting out with a simple eBook full of interesting information about the process, looking at the hundreds of possible recipes and setting out to make them all are only the beginning. You"ll also soon realize that beer 'machines', thousands of mixes and basement bars are just of a few of the options waiting for the beer lover. Shelves will need to be put up in the basement to house your growing collection of bottles. You"ll eventually want to build a walk-in cooler, perhaps two, just so you have room for not only your own batches but those from other brewers you need for "research". You"ll soon find that beer is all you think about.

3.You will be an immediate internet sensation: There is something about brewing your own beer, particularly if the word gets around you can do it well, that has a mystery about it with the general public. It draws attention. Your whole community will know you as the "beer guy" and while they may not know your name they will know where you live. You"ll get solicitations from non-profit organizations that want to have a fund raiser in the town square, asking if you can donate a keg or two. Local beer distributors will have your picture memorized, watching your every move with a bounty on your head. A few specialty shops will send you catalogs made just for you, because after all, you"ll spend a boatload of cash and days on end studying their shelves as you purchase beers of every kind so you can try and copy famous recipes.

Before you begin your adventures as a home brewer make sure you want to put up with all of this nonsense. Making home brew is not for the faint at heart. It requires severe dedication to friends old and new and a dedication to your new hobby. If you can"t envision these possibilities you probably should not become a home brewer.
