Step Back and Relax-You Have not Wasted Time

We dwell in a time of self-discovery. Many would even pronounce that there is a worldwide awaking when it comes to thinking more of the well being of others, and all of mankind. We're told we need to focus on our lives more, meditate, pray, and envision a better future. In western societies we are reminded how wasteful we are when it comes to creating whatever means is necessary to preserve our current lifestyles.

All of us know how frustrating it is to procrastinate and waste time in the day-to-day scheme of things. I certainly hear about this sort of thing more than most people, because as a professional coach, I help people on a daily basis to get control in their lives again and get the most out of their time.

But in my opinion, a true waste of time does not involve failing to stick to a routine or schedule. It involves failing to adequately learn from the lessons provided to us on a daily basis in the classroom of life. And if we do not learn from these lessons, you tend to find them re appearing wearing different clothes, again and again.

Muhammad Ali once said, "The man who views the world at fifty the same as he did at twenty has wasted thirty years of his life."

Read the quote again if you have to, because it will get you thinking.

Basically what Ali was talking about here was about experience. Generally, the longer we are on this earth, the more we are going to experience and ultimately learn.

Remember, self-discovery is a process of learning that draws upon both good and bad experiences. The longer we're on earth, the more experiences we're going to have.

Of course, this is a general rule. After all, there are people who at age twenty have gone through more than somebody aged fifty with a very sheltered life.

So as we grow older and experience more, our perspective on the world and our perspectives on the people around us will change. We will view things differently, thanks to the experiences we have had that have affected our lives and ultimately, our perspective. The way we process things.
