Stop The Family Smoking Chain Starting With Yourself And Your Children

It is not just a myth that children that grow up in homes where adults smoke tobacco grow up to be smokers themselves

. It is proven by statistics that can not be denied. It is hard to say exactly what the odds are that a child will not smoke if they are exposed to it at young ages, but the chances that they will smoke are pretty good. Kids are notorious for mocking what they see their parents and other adults in their life doing and this is not just so with smoking. They can learn to drink alcohol, abuse drugs and over eat as well. When they see adults attempting to soothe themselves or drown their problems and depression with substances, that is what they are likely to grow thinking will work for them as well.

It is only after people begin smoking tobacco that they find that instead of soothing anything, they have only added a new problem to their lives. This si what should be enough to make any parent very self conscious about smoking in front of their kids. If a smoker hates what they do, why would they want to risk their children mimicking what they do? If they are not able to stop smoking themselves, then the least they could do is to never smoke in front of their children.

So, what does a parent do if they have already made the mistake of exposing their kids to their tobacco smoking addiction? If they want to try and quit, a good way to help them overcome the temptation they might experience for smoking later in life is to allow them to be a part of your quitting process. This means that you can sit down with them and explain to them why you started smoking in the first place. If it was because of peer pressure when you were young, tell them it never helped you to fit in and you probably do not want to fit in with people that abuse their bodies in the first place. If you started smoking for any other reason or no reason at all, tell them that too.

You should do your best to help them to understand how the body can become physically and emotionally dependent on all kinds of substances and not just tobacco. If you are really serious about quitting, then tell them what your game plan is to stop and let them be a part of it. They will see first hand what discomfort and anxiety you will have to go through in order to break the addiction. You might also sit down and calculate with them the amount of money you waste of smoking and all of the more important things you could do with that money like spending it on them. That should really motivate them to become your cheering section while you are trying to break the smoking chain in your family. It should be noted that many smokers are now using an electronic cigarette instead of smoking tobacco. Of course, this product is not designed for children, but consenting adults. Even if you choose to use an electric cigarette, you should not use it in front of your kids.
