It's easy to take our water supply for granted- especially when living in areas that have a higher abundance of water. It is recommended that you store at least one gallon of water per person for each day for drinking and cooking, and an additional gallon for bathing and cleaning. Children, nursing mothers, those who are ill, and those that live an active lifestyle will need more than the recommended amount, and if you're living in a hot climate, you will need almost double. You should also store extra in case of a medical emergency. It is suggested that a family of four store between 500 and 600 gallons of water, which could last about 1-2 months.

Water should be kept fresh to ensure that it is safe for drinking.
