Street Fighting Techniques - Survive!

Street fighting techniques are more a basic need to survive than martial arts

. Practicing and learning attacks and defenses is what martial arts is all about. Street fighting techniques are different; you assess, observe and improvise. Street fighting is more a state of mind. Timing is the secret to street fighting, surprise is your friend.

Of course, defense is a good thing while waiting for an opening, however, if you constantly attack, it can really keep your opponent off balance. If he is too busy defending himself it's harder for him to attack.

The important thing is to find that opening. As soon as you find an opening do everything to do damage: kick, punch, use knees, elbows, or forearms. You should aim for eyes, nose, knee, or groin. Do anything to incapacitate your opponent. Don't relent until they are down. This is not a gentlemanly duel with rules. This person invaded your home and had bad things in mind: robbing you, murdering or raping your family. The one rule of Street fighting techniques is to survive. And this is the golden rule of street fighting: Do on to others before they can do on to you. Remember if you're standing at the end, and he isn't, you've won.

Avoid weapons you are not familiar with. Why? A weapon you are not familiar with can be taken away from you and used against you. Remember however anything goes. You should use furniture or anything that is around you to your advantage. Sharp corners, stone fireplaces, all these things can be struck with an opponent.

Of course there are several places where you can learn street fighting. There are classes, workshops and you can also find great tutorial videos online. Online classes, books and DVDs are a good place to start. Some local studios teach street fighting techniques as a form of self defense. And always remember:Do it fast. Do it hard. Do it permanently
