Summer Is Coming So Get Out The Sandals

Spring is just around the corner and hopefully it will this year be followed by a hot and glorious summer but in the U.K

. there is always an element of doubt.

In some countries the weather is much easier to predict. For example, in eastern Mediterranean countries such as Turkey and Greece the temperature rises from the end of the cold winter months of December, January and February to spring like conditions from the middle of March.

By the middle of April in this part of the world it is usually possible to put away all winter clothing and rain coats in the knowledge that hot days and warm nights are a certainty until the following end of October and beginning of November.

Throughout those seven months of summer only scanty clothes and summer sandals will be needed and even if it does rain it is so rare that people stand half-naked in the streets just to feel this summer rarity and to enjoy a welcome cooling shower.

In the U.K. on the other hand, just as it feels like summer is really here there can be times in August when the wind changes direction and the days feel almost winter like. On those days sandals are certainly not the desired footwear and boots are more the order of the day.

Sandals used to come in just one design and were always natural brown leather with a large side buckle but all that has changed with designs today to suit all tastes. Those clumsy looking shoes of old have been replaced by stunning and sexy looking pairs for ladies these days, lightweight and delicate looking they are truly great to look at as well as to wear.

This type of shoe is the oldest known to man and remains of some dating back several thousand years have been found in the Middle East where modern Iran is. Sandals are naturally ideal for hot weather and desert conditions where the sole purpose is to keep the soles of the feet off the burning sand and at the same time not to enclose the whole foot and trap heat.

Traditionally made from leather these are yet another example of how a natural product remains after thousands of years and advances in technology with synthetic materials, still the very best product for the feet.

Just like cotton makes the most comfortable shirts and manmade fibres like nylon and others tried to replace it there is no beating natural materials. Cotton and leather are the two most used materials clothing men and women today just as they have been for thousands of years.

Tanning leather is one of the oldest trades in the history of mankind and was in the past also just about the smelliest and unpleasantness of jobs involving all sorts of natural softening agents like human urine and dog faeces!
