. Then youre experienced, knowing that its an awesome way to make iced tea without heating-up the whole kitchen in the summer months. While you probably can make some mead by sticking some barley in a large bottle, setting it in the backyard, this is not that kind of article. What were talking about is how a couple of beer makers are powering their breweries with the energy of the sun. Think about how much money a fair-sized craft brewer spends on powering-up all the tanks in their factory. You really have to have the equivalent of a small blast furnace to boil the brew which will one day become a cold one.

A brewpub in the Wolverine State figured that out in the mid-90s. Arbor brewing has been using the energy from the sun, getting help from the University Of Michigan School Of Natural Resources and the Ann Arbor Downtown Development Authority. These two institutions came up with the seed money to turn the first plant that makes draught by using solar power. Like a 350-thousand buck of back-up.

Word got out to another place. This one is in Fort Collins, Colorado. New Belgium Brewing. They supplement their natural gas heaters with the energy from Sol. The Big Beer makers like MillerCoors are taking notice. They, like so many other non-beer producers, are beginning to get hip that this passive form of power can take a major slice from their bottom lines.

In the past, the start-up costs have made it hard to justify. But as more-and-more companies are seeing prices recede, it makes sense to become a next-generation adopter of this technology.
