Tattoo Fade Using Tattoo Removing Creams

You have a tattoo - or tattoos - that you want to remove

, but you don't know which removal technique to use. Laser removal and intense pulsed light therapy (IPL) are expensive. You've looked into at home tattoo removing creams. They are relatively inexpensive. They don't damage the skin and they are painless to use. But you are still unsure. Do tattoo removal creams work? Will your tattoo fade away? Unfortunately, this isn't an easy question to answer.

Before we can answer the question do they work, we need to look at how they work. Unlike lasers, which use intense light to break up tattoo ink, removal creams use chemicals to break down the inks. The thing is, the tattoo ink is under several layers of skin, so while any cream might work well on surface ink, only the best creams are going to penetrate to the depth required to get to your tattoo.

TCA (TriChloroacetic acid) is another type of tattoo remover. It's a liquid, not a cream, and it acts differently that your typical removal cream. TCA induces a mild skin inflammation, which causes the top layer of skin to peel off, removing a small amount of tattoo ink with it. It is used in cosmetic chemical skin peels. There is a mild sting associated with it. A new layer of skin, without ink, grows where the peeled layer was.

Whether you use a cream or TCA, the old cliche "you get what you pay for" does apply. As a rule, the more expensive products perform better at fading tattoos than the cheaper products. And whichever product you use, understand that the process will take many months. For example, the instructions for TCA state that you should apply it once every six weeks.

In the end, you may get a complete fade or you may not. You may be happy with your results or you may not. If your tattoo hasn't faded as much as you hoped for, an option is to then use a laser removal procedure. Many people have found that fewer laser treatments are required, causing less skin damage, resulting in less expense, while completely removing the tattoo when they pre-faded their tattoos using removal creams.
