Taupo Directory--what Is Taupo Dot Tel?

Taupo is a township beside the well-known Lake Taupo in the North Island of New Zealand

. It is the place where the Ironman Competition in New Zealand takes place annually.

It now has a new directory for visitors to the area. It uses the new Dot Tel Domain technology which has been available to the public for just over a year.

This new technology stores data in the internet's Domain Name System. This is the same place that the internet's Internet Protocol addresses are stored for every computer connected to the internet.

The top level domain extension for this technology is '.tel' or 'Dot Tel.'

It loads faster than a regular website such as a '.com' or '.co.nz'. It has much less data per page as well which also makes it even faster.

The '.tel' is designed to store mainly contact information of many different types. These include standard phone numbers through to Skype, Google Talk and gaming contacts.

It does not have traditional website content such as video, audio, and lots of colors and Flash applications. Yet, it can still hold a large amount of text on each page as well as the contact data.

Taupo Dot Tel is, at present, for visitors and tourists to the Lake Taupo Region. The directory has listings as far south as Waiouru, and as far north as Orakei Korako. Turangi, and Tongariro National Park are included.

Taupo Dot Tel lists contact details such as accommodation, tourist attractions, food and drink (restaurants, cafes, and bars), resources like internet access options and internet cafes, and so much more.

It includes a Google Map location for each of the businesses, and attractions that tourists are likely to want to visit or use.

Taupo Dot Tel is accessed from any web browser. But it is optimized for mobile phones (cell phones). The design of each page has been created to suit mobile phone technology.

This is important because mobile phone internet is rapidly becoming popular. Dot Tel Domain technology anticipates the coming mobile phone web browsing trend.

It even has special downloadable applications for mobile phones such as the iPhone and Blackberry. There will soon be an application for Android Phones as well.

The PC based Microsoft Outlook has a Dot Tel application which is also available for downloading free of charge.

Taupo Dot Tel is a Green Directory, and this is one of its attractions. No paper is used because there are no hard copies of the directory. No trees are cut down to make phone books.
