TaylorMade R7 CGB MAX Irons product information

The TaylorMade R7 CGB MAX Irons are primarily designed to be game improvement irons. For use generally more by mid and higher handicap golfers.

With a wide sole and a thick top line, along with a large clubface, they do have the look of game improvement irons when you stand over them at address.

The visible weights that are in the heel and in the toe of the club head, are specifically and deliberately positioned with the intention of providing as much forgiveness and stability as possible.

Various shaft options are available to select from. The models we tested were equipped with the True Temper Dynamic Gold steel shafts in stiff flex.

The r7 CGB MAX's distance-producing capabilities begin with the clubface, which is created separately from the clubhead thanks to TaylorMade's Pull-Face method of construction. The clubface, which consists of 455 stainless steel, is exceptionally thin yet exceptionally strong, and boasts a large, unsupported area that helps to generate an uncommonly high COR for an iron, helping to promote faster ball speed and increased distance.

Pull-Face construction makes it possible for the r7 CGB MAX to employ TaylorMade's exclusive Inverted Cone Technology (ICT), which was pioneered three years ago in TaylorMade's R500 Series drivers and is still employed in TaylorMade's r7 and r5 driver models, including the No. 1 driver on the PGA Tour, the r7 quad*. With the r7 CGB MAX, the inverted cone is milled directly into the rear side of the clubface. The precise geometry of the inverted cone changes the way the clubface behaves at impact and effectively increases the size of the club's COR zone, so that a larger area of the clubface delivers a higher degree of ball speed. TaylorMade engineers have been working to find a way to incorporate ICT into irons for three years, and the fact that they have succeeded represents a breakthrough that allows the r7 CGB MAX to deliver consistently long distance even on off-center hits.

These clubs look very cutting edge. Given that they are TaylorMade, this is not very surprising. TaylorMade always seems to come up with high tech looking club offerings. From the textured black area on the backside of the clubface, to the black steel shaftshead to toe, these irons will look awesome in your bag.

The topline of the R7 CGB Max irons is pretty typical of today's super game improvement irons. It's rather thick and a little brighter looking than the more satin look of the Burner XD irons. Each iron pictured below is a 7 iron. If you are accustomed to playing blades or player type irons, you may be disgusted by such a thick toplinebutyou probably aren't looking at irons like this anyway. Personally, it doesn't bother me. In fact, all that meat behind the ballyou really feel like you should have no problem walloping the ball with every swing.

One said, "Played one season, 50 rounds with these irons and could not be more pleased. They were shorter than my TM Burner irons so I added 1/2" in length to the steel shafts and got forgiveness without losing distance. Handicap dropped from 17 to 11.8 with an increase in GIR attributable to the forgiveness of these irons. Pricey but I found them used on the internet."

The other one said so about these irons, "These irons easily replaced my previous R16 Calloway irons. The swing seems smoother, there is less temptation to swing hard and there is less twisting in my hands."
