TaylorMade R9 SuperTri Driveris with Flight Control Technology. The adjustable hosel allows golfers to select one of eight different loft, lie and face-angle configurations so you can pick the look at address that best suits your swing. MWT, or Moveable Weight Technology is seen in these three weight ports which are interchangeable so you can adjust the center of gravity to promote a fade, neutral or draw bias.
The Supertri will fit a wide range of players. Forgiving without the bulk. The head frames the ball nicely at address. It looks more sharper and less rounded than the R9 460. The feel and sound is similar to a crushing can. But less of the tinny affect of previous TM drivers. The Supertri glides through the air easily and it doesn't overwhelm the player. I shortened mine to 45 inches, and it refreshingly appears shorter than other 45 length drivers. Easy to control, fun to hit. I haven't changed the adjustable neck, but I've built my shafts with the FCT sleeve. A cool concept to be able to swap shafts yourself.
The head shape is not quite the classic pear shape with its fractionally extended rear but it's a million miles from the lairy max-MOI efforts that are now so commonplace. Because the face is so deep it has a very reassuring look at address not only do you get the sensation that the face is impossible to miss, you also get the subliminal message that you are playing a club with much greater loft so you don't need to rip into the ball to try and lift it up.
After the 2010 Driver Shoot Out, I was convinced that the newest technologies in the driver could help me and I set out on a quest to find the next driver for my bag. After weeks of testing a familiar face came out of the crowd and the sole of the club said TAYLORMADE!
The R9 SuperTri includes three weights 16-gram, 1-gram, 1-gram and an FCT torque wrench. It's available intwo lofts 9.5, 10.5 and five shaft flexes L, M, R, S, X. Street price is $249.9. The R9 SuperTri TP features the same head as the R9 SuperTri but with a choice of ten premium shafts including the Aldila Voodoo, Mitsubishi Fubuki and Matrix Ozik. It becomes available starting on February 19, 2010.
