Teaching Your Parrot Tricks Through Possitive Reinforcement
One of my favorite creatures to have as a pet is a Parrot
. They are very intelligent birds and they learn so quickly they are a pleasure to train.
We all know that intelligence can be a burden. Highly intelligent people need constant stimulation to stop them becoming bored and irritable; and Parrots are exactly the same. You need to spend an awful lot of time with them so they respond to you and interact.
A few things will help you while training your Parrot; so keep these in mind. For a start, always let your Parrot out of their cage to do the training. Find a quiet spot with limited space and the new environment with interest your Parrot. He will be a lot more responsive when taken out of his everyday environment.
You also must make sure that wherever you are training your Parrot is free from distractions such as a cell phone, television and radio. Your Parrot needs to focus so removing all these will ensure that he is.
A lot of short training sessions will reap more rewards than a few big ones, as their short attention spans won't let them concentrate for very long at a time.
Think carefully about the time of day you are training your Parrot too, don't expect him to fit in with your schedule as it just won't happen. A perfect time for training is after they've been fed as they will be very content and attentive.
Even if you are disappointed with the way that the training session has gone, never let your Parrot sense your stress. However the sessions go; give your bird plenty of praise so he thinks that he has done well. If you fail to do this, you will find it hard to get his attention in future as he will think there's no point.
Not everyone can train a Parrot successfully; it calls for long term patience and dedication. If you do manage to complete the training, the rewards will be obvious in the fact you have a wonderful pet and friend.
