Teaching jobs: shaping future and building nation

Teaching is a noble profession. Teachers mould the future of the youth and contribute in building the nation. It is one of the oldest and secure professions that attract a good number of talented people in its fold. The demand for teachers has seen an upward swing as number of government and private educational institutes are increasing day by day. With Education becoming a fundamental right, the profession has becoming more challenging.

Teaching jobs offer immense scope for those who have the inclination to guide and nurture talent. Higher education in India has lot of jobs like lecturers, assistant, associate professors etc. To start a career in University or college, a post graduate degree in subject of one's choice is the minimum requirement. After completing Masters, one needs to clear the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by University Grants Commission (UGC). NET is a combined exam and after qualifying it individuals can either apply for college teaching or become research scholars by pursuing Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). Research scholars can complete their PhD and become eligible for the post of Professors while those who go for college teaching start as lecturers or assistant professors and can go on to become associate professors. College and University teachers earn handsome salaries and after inclusion of the recommendations of the Chadha Committee by UGC in the Sixth Pay Commission, the salaries are now at par with top executives.

At the lower level, teaching in schools is also an option with good salary. With numerous schools vying for the best faculty, there are a lot of teaching jobs today. A graduate or post graduate degree in any subject with B Ed from recognised institute is the basic qualification for a teacher. Nowadays, some Universities also offer a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education after which one can get job as a primary teacher or a Bachelor Degree in Physical Education to become Physical Instructors. As schools become more inclusive, special education teaching jobs are also gaining popularity. They help in adapting curriculum and developing teaching techniques to meet the needs of students. Special Education teachers have to pursue specific course for handling special students while those having a background in Psychology or Social Work can take up counselling in schools as a full time or part time job. At the pre-school level, the demand for nursery teachers is also felt badly. Nursery Teachers Training (NTT) is the qualification required for pre-school teachers. Overall, the job of teachers is very important as they inculcate good qualities and show young minds the right path. The job is challenging but satisfactory with immense growth avenues.
