Technology Will Always Include Evolving At A Rapid Rate
Being able to search the internet or purchase movie tickets from a handheld device
is almost so unbelievable, that twenty years ago it would have been considered science fiction. It is unbelievable how fast and how far technology has evolved and the technical and information revolutions are still in full swing.
The worldwide markets for these devices are so overwhelming and it is by no means just a Western phenomenon. All around the world, the handheld mobile devices are taking over as the main way of communicating. From the biggest cities of Europe to the smallest villages in Thailand, everyone it seems has a cell phone. Cell phones have become so commonplace that it seems weird and odd when you run across the rare person that doesn't own one.
You think to yourself what could be wrong with them, why aren't they up with the times and the current technological trends. That would be like finding someone in the seventies and eighties that didn't have a land line and couldn't make phone calls from their home. That would have been weird, but now it is exactly the opposite. Most people would prefer to go completely wireless and forsake the land line all together.
Past generations have seen the evolution of the wired home rotary phone develop into the latest cell phone technology. It is probably hard to find the newest generation who has ever even used a rotary phone. They only know the capability of the cell phone that is their constant companion. This tiny handheld device will let anyone do in a matter of seconds or minutes what used to require all day or many days to accomplish. No one can argue the usefulness of a cell phone over a rotary or land line phone, in today's busy schedule.
What seemed like science fiction a few years ago is normal and acceptable and even considered weird if you don't use it. Imagine telling your co-workers that you want to keep handwritten ledgers as back-up for what you would normally keep on a spreadsheet in your computer? What would they think of you? They would think that you were old fashioned and stuck in the old ways of doing things. But when the computers crash one day and everybody needs to borrow your noted, all of sudden you are the office hero. Embrace the new, but don't forget the past.
