Teeing Off In Style At The Nuwaraeliya Golf Course

Although relatively an unknown Golf Championship country

, Sri Lanka boasts of 3 of Asia's best Golf courses made all the more memorable and exciting by the fact that each of these courses are completely different from each other, offering different hazards, conditions, elevations and scenery so much so that one will almost imagine that they were in three different countries.

The Nuwaraeliya Gold Course and club, is the country's oldest course, having being built almost 123 years ago in 1889 by British settlers who were based in Nuwaraeliya looking into tea and coffee plantations. With conditions almost equaling that of their hometown, the Colonial settlers were at home in the scenic hill country station. As the city is at an elevation of 6200 feet above sea level the weather is at times bitingly chilly and at other times just right in its coolness.

The 18 hole course is a tough one, made all the more testy due to the fact that it is one of the only courses where all the holes can be seen either from the club or can accessed by car. The first tee itself is situated right in front of the club house.

6 of the holes are close to waterways and fir trees line the entirety of the course. Additionally the area is essentially leopard territory so going off the course is not the best option.

After a satisfyingly pleasurable day on the course, golfers are welcome to the club house where the bar is a scenic spot in which to enjoy a drink and relax. The club house also offers meals. Caddies and even club rentals are available. Par for the course is 70 and for ladies 72.
