Telemrketing And Telesales

Telemrketing And Telesales
Many people tend to group telemarketing and telesales together; both quite similar (in that they both involve the use of the telephone) however both quite different in the ways they work.
Around the UK there are over 600 telemarketing/telesales companies, some offering just telemarketing, some telesales, some both.
So what are the differences between both of these services?
Telesales
Telesales actually means telephone sales and it a type of telephone selling. If you are called up and asked to buy something - then this is 'telesales'.
Telesales is a very high pressured 'sell sell sell' job whereby callers are selling a product for money over the phone. This could be advertising space, cars, services like insurance etc.
Telemarketing
Telemarketing is quite different in that it does not involve selling anything. Telemarketing is more about 'marketing a product' or service (hence the name).
Telemarketing could be linked to things like appointment making, lead generation or telephone surveys. Still a targeted and pressured job it is less cut throat than telesales.
Many people can confuse the two thinking that telemarketing & telesales are just different names for the same thing; however each is different and does require different skills. Both of these services do require different skills, so normally both require a different 'breed' of person to do the calling.
Justto further complicate things, there are a couple of different types of telemarketing:
Inbound Telemarketing
Outbound Telemarketing
If you are looking for telemarketing, then choosing the right type of telemarketing company is important. There does tend to be more outbound telemarketing companeis than inbound, most of which tend to be smaller telemarketing companies that are set up by ex telemarketers.
You do need to have a clear understanding on which you are looking for; as many 'telemarketing' companies will take on both (not being able to deliver one of them) as no one wants to turn business away.
Many agencies do this as they realise that most people do not know the difference, therefore saying they can do both does cover all bases.
The problem then is that you do not get the best agency for your campaign.
