Telephones - Ever New and never extinct!

Communication as we see it today was not the scenario before the cogitation of Telephones

, which are considered the biggest invention ever. Without this it the communication media would not have evolved to the widespread network connecting people around the globe.

Telephones came into being in the 1870s and today it is an ineluctable part of everyone's life. Although these were initially a simple device which allows two people to speak with each other over a long distance, it now finds its application for various other purposes like fax, telegraph and dial-up internet connections.

After almost 135 years after the first telephone, technology has developed immensely because of which telephones are the most simple and sought way of communication. Telephones are available as home phones or landlines and cordless phones. Home phones are the ones in which the handset is attached to the base whereas cordless phones are those in which there is no wire connection with the base station. In the cordless ones, which were invented much late in 1960s, the handset and the base interact with the help of radio waves inside a limited range. With the advancement in technologies, nowadays cell handover and international roaming on a limited scale are also possible. And hence the clear distinction between mobile phones and these are getting blurred gradually.

The base station of the cordless phones work on electricity and its handsets works on rechargeable batteries which get charged when placed on the cradle of the base station. But the home phones do not have any such complications.

With an explosion in the mobile phone industry, landlines or home phones may seem insignificant as you won't be able to attend the calls at all the time and place with them. But the call rates can be more convenient with the land phones as it remains same throughout. However if you forget to check your phone plan rates you may end having a great loss.

For emergency phone calls or SOS calls, home phones can be prove more beneficial than mobile phones as it helps operators to determine your location faster.
