Often referred as TAMU, Texas A&M University is Texas A&M University System's flagship institution. Founded in the year 1876, it was originally known as Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas. The abbreviation A&M stands for agriculture and mechanical. In its present form, the A&M part has been maintained to honor history (the short form has been like this since the 18th century).

One of the largest universities in America in terms of enrollment, Texas A & M University offers courses in agriculture, business, geosciences, arts, veterinary medicine, public service, architecture and many other disciplines.

Another magnificent facet of this university is that it has given many great army based, navy and air force personnel (the Corps of Cadets is an important part of this campus) to United States.
