The 2 Main Workout Killers: Time and Motivation

The 2 Main Workout Killers: Time and Motivation

There are two main reasons that people start slacking on their workouts, or all together stop working out: Time and Motivation! Every one of us could use another 5 hours in the day, whether your day is filled from work, kids or any one of the thousands of things we are all committed to. So how do you find the time to fit exercising in and then how do you stay motivated?

One great way to save time is to be able to work out at home. This is one of the great advantages of doing circuit training and cross fit routines. By creating your own workouts, you can not only individualize the workout to your own fitness level but you can do it at home. Whether it's in your driveway, your back yard, your basement or your living room, you can workout whenever it fits into your day and your lifestyle and save time. Think of the extra time it takes you to go to the gym. For most of us there is those few extra minutes getting at least a little more presentable for the public view, then there's maybe packing a bag, getting your music and towel and water and whatever else we might carry along with us all together into our bag, getting into the car, driving to the gym, getting into the gym and set up on whatever equipment you might decide to use, and then of course the driving back home, getting back into the house and up into the shower! Now even if you are super organized and your gym is really close by, that is still at least a 30-40 minute process right there if you added it all up on both ends. That 30 minutes could be your whole workout!

If working out at home isn't right for you, then decide what fits in to your schedule, what time of day works best for you and then be realistic in your plan. That's extremely important because when you set unrealistic goals and timelines for working out, it just leads to more guilt and frustration which is going to make you even less motivated to continue your fitness routine.

The other main factor: motivation! So how do you stay motivated? The easiest way is to find something you enjoy. If your workout bores you, you are going to be less committed, and even if you do put the time in, chances are you are not going to achieve the same high intensity as you would doing something you enjoy, so you are going to burn much less fat and calories! If you are going to spend your valuable time doing it, at least make sure you are getting the most out of it. Circuit training is great for many people in this sense because you can individualize it and you can keep changing it up. Every day's routine can be a little bit different, and still be a great workout, incorporating all your muscle groups into one workout. When you know you are getting a great workout, and you are not bored out of your mind, you are going to stay much more motivated! Enjoy running, but get bored staring at the front of the treadmill, or love biking but get sick of the stationary bike. Well incorporate short runs or bike rides/sprints in between the sets of your circuit. It's a proven fact that the more bored you are with your workout, the less motivated you are going to be, the less strict you will be, the less often you will work out, and the less intense you will work out on those days that you do fit it in. So whatever it is you decide to do, whether its circuit training, P90x or a traditional workout at the gym, find what you enjoy and try to keep it fresh. You will be much more successful!

If cross fit routines and dynamic training sounds like a good fit for you, butthis is new to you check out"How to Choose the Right Exercise Routine for You" and you can begin to understand what's important about designing your own fitness routine and where to start. It's simple and can be fun! You can workout at home with very little equipment. You can start with little to no equipment, but we would recommend you at least get a stability ball and maybe some fitness tubes or bands. That's the great thing about it, you can decide which exercises are right for you and which, if any equipment you have or want! No matter what, have fun and get FreakinFit!
