The 3 Biggest Business Mistakes Actors Make

There are three major business mistakes that actors make, and I want to share them with you and show you how to avoid them.

The first mistake is that you focus more on auditions rather than building relationships. When you spend a life focusing on auditions, you spend a life waiting for the phone to ring. I want you to take needing an audition off the table and instead focus on building relationships. When you focus on building relationships, you will find that the scales are balanced. You don't need anything right away, and you approach your career with a long-term vision. It's definitely going to increase your confidence.

The second mistake is that you trust experts more than you trust your gut. There are a lot of experts out there teaching a wide variety of strategies for actors. I'm not saying all of the experts are wrong. What I am saying is that no one knows you better than you. Your job is to listen to the advice of experts, apply what they're telling you, but question that advice as the end-all, be-all rule. I want you to apply what you learn even from me, and see what works best for you. It's not about listening to the perfect expert; it's about applying what you learn and discovering for yourself your own unique journey.

The third business mistake that actors make is taking inconsistent action. Have you ever heard the saying, "There are ten years behind every overnight success"? Well, it really is true. I work hand in hand with hundreds of actors every year, and I find that many of them think they're doing a lot for their business. They think they are doing everything they can, but in reality, they are just doing a lot of thinking and not a lot of doing.

Now, your marketing does not have to be a 40 hour a week job. Instead, I want you to devote 30-90 minutes, 5 days each week toward your business. Building a business is a process, not an event, so set yourself up for success in the long term by taking consistent action.
