The 3 Types of Life-Coaching Clients I Come Across
The 3 Types of Life-Coaching Clients I Come Across
I teach a weekly life-coaching call and last Wednesday's "Positive Path" call made it clear to me a major difference in the types of people who train to improve their lives. We'll come across 3 different types of people, and in fact, we had all 3 types on that call.
Conscious Mind Trainers
One type does very well with simple personal development. Principles like, "You control your life!" and "You get what you focus on!" can get these people rushing out into the world with a smile on their face and conquering everything in their path. Give them the movie "The Secret" and they're fine and dandy. Simple house-cleaning of the mind, knowing ones strengths, weaknesses, and goals are exactly what these people need to succeed. And boy can these people motivate and army!
Conscious & Subconscious Mind Trainers
The other type of person is an 'in between' person. They can choose to do simple personal development at times, and deeper training at other times. This type of person has been around the block more than they know, and they have already been quite successful in this and/ or past lives. So some months they choose to live life on the surface and be simple about their training. And other months they choose to go deep into exploring life's deeper paths. Sometimes money is the hot topic in their life, and other times they choose more spiritual pursuits.
Subconscious Mind Trainers (ie: "Energy Training")
And the 3rdtype of person is one who comes to me begging to know why their minds are so unpeaceful and busy. Oftentimes these people are very advanced spiritually, but it's the mental mess that gets in the way of an enlightened life. This kind of person benefits greatly by training deep forms of personal development to release the attachment from the mind as quickly as possible to bring the noise to a manageable level. In this country, the ones who fit this profile oftentimes are middle-aged women and deep thinkers.
The "I Choose" Affirmation
Someone asked me a few months ago, "Is it important to say the words "I Choose" in front of all my affirmations?"
Well, today when thinking about the 3rd type, I came up with the answer.
I was trying to meditate outside, and I kept thinking about the lecture I'll be giving at tonight called, "Training for Enlightenment", at Centerpoint (www.centerpointhouston.com). So I told myself, "I choose to only meditate with no thoughts." And wouldn't you know it, the mind shut up and stayed focused like a trained dog under the control of its master.
Our bodies respond to commands that are direct, decisive, and closed. So if I am sitting peacefully trying to meditate, yet thoughts about a topic keep coming into mind, say, "I choose to only sit with an empty mind meditating." This technique works great for the 3rd types of life-coaching client. A busy mind needs simple, direct orders.
If I'm at the office at my desk and I notice the mind wandering and my body getting tense, say, "I choose to have a peaceful mind and body."
These affirmations help to lock the body/ mind in to a given directive. In the beginning, you'll notice the body/ mind sticking to that contract for a few seconds or minutes. But as time goes on, and you keep choosing Peace, one's awareness will increase.
You Get What You Focus On
I have faith that whether you're new or old to personal development, whether you want to go deep in it or stay simple, or whether you want to train deeply to release as much attachment as possible, you will all reach your goals of a peaceful body and mind. Since we always get what we focus on (this is a law of nature), get clear on what you want, and consistently Go For It! Liberation will come little by little with every step you take towards it.
