The Acer Stream Is A High Tech New Android Smartphone

Whilst their experience in the smartphone market may not be massive

, Acer has done well with their efforts so far. The same is true of the Acer Stream, their latest foray into the Android smartphone market.

With a long list of key features all provided as standard it is actually hard to find anything wrong with this phone and it looks ideally placed to compete with some of the more established mainstream smartphones.

The handset itself is aesthetically pleasing and measures 119.5x 63x 11.2 mm making it pocket friendly and a pleasure to hold and use on the move thanks to its light weight of 140 grams.

Measuring 3.7 inches, the AMOLED capacitive touchscreen is capable of displaying up to 16M colours within its pixel resolution of 480x 800 which is generally considered to be the benchmark for a screen of this size. An accelerometer sensor is provided to automatically rotate the contents of the screen based on the angle at which the phone is held. This makes it perfect for viewing photos and videos in both portrait and landscape forms.

A completely customised Acer UI replaces the standard Android 2.1 UI, which of course provides access to the Android Market. This gives users access to a vast number of applications which can be downloaded and installed, from a huge number of categories. Plenty of storage is provided as standard, with 2 GB internal along with a pre-installed 8 GB memory card in the microSD slot; however this can be replaced with a card of up to 32 GB.

GPRS and EDGE provide the initial means of connecting to cellular networks, whilst the internet relies on both 3G coverage and Wi-Fi. In areas where 3G is available, an HSDPA connection provides speeds of up to 7.2Mbps, whilst Wi-Fi provides a faster connection thanks to local wireless networks where available. Bluetooth and micro USB connections allow the handset to be connected to other devices.

The Acer Stream comes equipped with a versatile and well made 5 megapixel digital camera. Its features include autofocus and image stabilization, whilst GPS allows geo-tagging to take place, whereby the location at which photos were taken are displayed on a map. The camera has the ability to shoot 720p HD video at 24 frames per second.

A long list on built in features are included, largely thanks to the versatility of the Android 2.1 operating system. These range from entertainment features, to productivity tools which mean the Acer Stream is equally at home in the workplace. An HDMI TV-out means the handset can be hooked up to a high def TV where the HD video can be enjoyed at its full potential.

If you are looking for an alternative to mainstream smartphones which packs a range of powerful hardware and software, the Acer Stream is worth a closer look.
