The Advantages Of Having A Household Landline Phone
Theres no doubt that since the birth of the telephone in 1876 it has proved to be
a remarkable innovation and one that many people in the 21st century are very familiar with, whether its through business or leisure time. It is a relatively simple piece of technology that allows the user instant communication with someone from virtually anywhere in the world, and it is certain that, in the same way, the Internet has now revolutionised the way in which we conduct business and stay in touch with friends and family.
From the 1980s onwards, mobile phones have provided the user more freedom with their communication technology, allowing them to connect to a cell network, to make calls or send messages whether there was signal. This was truly an increasingly versatile piece of technology that developed at a rapid rate. Despite the fact that the first mobiles weighed as much as a kilogram, forty years later in the modern day they are now far smaller and are not only able to make calls and send messages, but also perform many of the basic tasks that a computer can including sending emails, browsing the web and online shopping.
The Internet has already revolutionised so many aspects of our day-to-day life whether it is socially or in the working world and as it continues to develop theres no doubt that it will continue to do so. Wi-Fi is quickly becoming available in many public establishments such as bars and cafes, and as it does so an increasing number of people are choosing to communicate online. In addition to this there are now products that some might say render the telephone virtually obsolete. VoIP telephones operate via your Internet connection and they allow you to make calls and vide calls to anywhere in world, with an Internet connection, for no extra charge than your broadband price. And you dont have even log into your computer to use them, they function just like a traditional landline telephone.
However, despite the alluring prospect of free calls to virtually anywhere in the world there are downsides to replacing your traditional telephone with a VoIP telephone. Firstly you will be relying solely on your Internet connection for all your communication, which isnt necessarily secure, so you will have to be careful not leave any personal details. In contrast traditional landline telephones are far more secure and arguably more reliable than an Internet connection. Also traditional landline phones can operate without electricity, and they are the only modern communication technology that can, so they can prove to be very useful in the event of a power cut.
