For a beginner who is not quite familiar with the controller, a gas powered model can get out of control in a hurry, causing your expensive model to wreck. Then there is the fuel itself. These fuel mixtures have to be carefully mixed, too much oil and the car won't run, to little and you can burn out the motor. It is messy, smelly and dangerous. Because it is a combustible fuel, it also emits toxic fumes into the environment.

One the other hand, an RC electric car can be much better and easier to deal with. These remote car models, while you may think are slower because of the electric power cells, but they can still travel at speeds up to 25-30 MPH on a single charge. They also run longer, lasting up to twenty minutes or more at a time. Because they are a bit slower, they are an ideal way for beginners to get used to the controller without crashing. Because they are electric, there is no fuel to deal with, and they are much safer for the environment.

Now when most people think of an RC electric car they immediately picture one of those toy cars that are sold at toy stores and mass marketing retailers. While there are some remote car models like this, for the most part an electric RC car can be just as well made as a gas powered model. They can be found in ready-to-run models, that are able to be driven right out of the box, or in kits that you have to put together.

If you are interested in an RC electric car, here are some things you should be looking for. The first thing is that your remote car should be made from high quality materials, with strong electric motors. A good price range for electric cars should start at fifty dollars. Anything less is going to be made from cheaper plastics, have poor quality motors, and won't last very long. The next thing you need to look for is a good battery pack. You want to find a lithium battery pack, because these hold a charge longer, make the car itself run better, and have a longer overall lifespan. The controller should also be of high quality, whether it is a steering wheel controller, or a knob controller. It should have at least two different channels, in case you are running it around others so it doesn't interfere with them, or they interfere with your car.
