The Amazing Iphone 4-the Handset Of 2010

This summer has seen a number of new smart phones enter the mobile phone market

. Amongst them is the long awaited iPhone 4, and if first impression are anything to go by, this impressive new model from Apple stands head and shoulders above the competition.

Image reproduction on the iPhone 4 is perhaps the most impressive you will find on any mobile device. The problem with many phones is that a lot of the content viewed on the screen is in text format, be it SMS, e mails or web pages. With the average phone screen ranging from 2.5" to 3.5", it is inevitable that many people will want to zoom in to read the text more clearly, enlarging the pixels and resulting in jagged edges. This is not a problem on the iPhone 4 thanks to a huge 326 pixels per square inch being displayed. Due to this being actually higher than the human eye can detect, edges appear smooth with no pixels visible, almost as if you were reading them from the printed page. It is for this reason that Apple have named the screen the "Retina" display. Displaying a mammoth 960 x 640 resolution, the screen benefits from using IPS technology to not only offer a wider viewing angle, but also more vivid and more natural colours. Measuring 3.5", the same as its predecessors, the display offers a great 800:1 contrast ratio, but some of the old favourites are still included such as multi touch, pinch and zoom and a proximity sensor.

Modern mobile handsets are more frequently being used as multi media tools such as MP3 players or cameras. In acknowledgement to this the iPhone 4 now has an increased mega pixel rating on its camera. The 2 million pixel increase brings the handset in line with many of it competitors by offering 5 million pixel quality. However as any digital photography enthusiast will tell you, resolution is not everything. The cameras sensor plays just as big a role in producing great images, so the iPhone 4's improvements in this department are a significant improvement. This new sensor improves pixel size, thus making them more absorbent to light, resulting in more colourful image. Video capture quality has also been stepped up, with the phone now capable of shooting stunning 720P high definition footage at a rate of 30 frames per second.

Overall, this is a very impressive release from Apple. It would have been easy to stick to a tried and tested format, but the brave decision to upgrade the design as well as the features could well be one that pays handsome divedends.
