The Ashes 2010: Aussies slayed in Adelaide!

So, England have won the Second Test in Adelaide in emphatic fashion by an innings and 71 runs to go 1-0 up in the series with three matches to play.

Sensational batting from England's top order batsmen coupled with tight fielding and aggressive, attacking bowling proved to be the key catalysts in Australia's downfall.

The continuing form of opener Alastair Cook and the return to form of talisman Kevin Pietersen could not have been timed better, leaving Aussie captain Ricky Ponting with a huge task on his hands to revitalise his team ready for the next Test on Wednesday 16th December at the Wacca ground in Perth.

The threat that bad weather in Adelaide could dash England's hopes of a victory were not unfounded, as at 2pm local time the heavens opened and had the game not have been completed by that time it would indeed have been a washout. Thankfully England had already wrapped it up by then!

Adelaide features several top class hotel brands that will be familiar to UK travellers.

There's the attractive Hyatt Regency located right on the River Torrens with the Intercontinental further up the river in downtown Adelaide, there's also Sebel Playford on the North Terrace in easy reach of shopping or the Grand Chifley on parkland in the South Terrace. See Adelaide hotels.

So, next up for England then is a trip to sunny Perth on the west coast home to top hotels like the Crowne Plaza near Langley Park, Sheraton Hotel overlooking the Swan River and Duxton in the central business district. See Perth hotels.

The wicket at Perth has historically always favoured pace and particularly swing bowling, and England will once again look to Jimmy Anderson and Steven Finn to get their rhythm going early to unsettle the Australians.

No doubt that I'll be glued to the cricket as I was last night whilst simultaneously trying to soothe my new born baby daughter to sleep at 3am they do say that every cloud has a silver lining and I think this is mine.

However, if you fancy being out there in the sunshine enjoying a beer with the England supporters, follow one of the links above and phone or email for a tailored quote.
