The Banned Commercials

The infamous "banned commercials"

The infamous "banned commercials". What were the advertisers thinking?

They spend millions of dollars on advertising. Don't they get it yet?

I love funny commercials. I love watching the famous Super Bowl Commercials.

If a commercial isn't funny, I usually end up either turning the TV channel or walking away to get some more munchies from the kitchen.

Humor in advertising is king in my opinion! That's what makes the "Super Bowl" experience so great! Millions of people from all over the world watch. Not the football game but the commercials! Betty White was hilarious in the commercial that had her playing football! What a hoot! Humor plays a big part in the world of advertising.

Advertisers know this, so they try to sprinkle in a little sex in the mix.

They also know that sex sells as well as humor. Put them together and you must have a winner, Right?

Well yes and no.

Yes, that is a great combination, however they seem to go too far.

That's when they get in trouble. The powers that be put a big "Banned" label on it and they end up on the banned commercials list. Now the advertisers have spent millions of their advertising dollars on something that is in the scrap heap! What a waste of money!

I remember when commercials were squeaky clean. The good old days.

Commercials, with names like Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, I think they were trying to sell Ovaltine Drink Mix, not sure. Danny Thomas (Maxwell House Coffee), The Three Stooges were always good for a commercial or two.

The list goes on. These stars were great in these type of commercials.

I remember cartoon characters selling "Good and Plenty" cause "Charlie Says he loves his good and plenty". Those were the days my friend. Days that have long past and we'll never see again. I take that back. You will occasionally see them on the Oldie but goodie TV channels. You know the ones.

The powers that be in monitoring TV ADs did at least a couple of things right.

They banned commercials that were advertising cigarettes and hard liquor.

I remember the beer commercial with the Hamm's Bear." Land of Sky Blue Waters". What a classic.

Well now you have beer commercials that advertise beer with beautiful women, sport jocks, and sports fans! Most are funny and they use the ever popular sex and humor combination. Throw a movie star or or hall of famer into the mix and presto, you have a beer commercial!

It always seems that the advertisers go too far. Too much revealed by the beautiful women, too much sexual behavior, or the language sometimes offends some ethnic group. The beat goes on! The banned commercials will always exist because the entertainment industry will always push the envelope and try to justify their commercials to the powers that be.

The banned commercials list is getting longer by the day. Case and point. Look up the banned commercials on you tube and you will see a multitude of

banned commercials. Everything from A to Z.

In summary, I'm not saying that these types of ads are wrong. Some are very funny, humorous, and down right "roll on the floor funny" but I guess there is a time and place for everything.
