Dress. Qatar is one of the more modern countries in the Moslem world but there are still quite a number of rules concerning dress in public. While turban use is allowed, Indian dress for women that expose shoulders and belly buttons are extremely frowned upon. Do not expose too much skin and dresses must not be too short in order to be safe while in Qatar.

Food. There are many choices of food in the country. A vegetarian Indian dish can cost less than two dollars. Other food choices are also relatively priced compared to many costs outside the country. With the many range of choices, one can cook meals at home but do be wary when cooking meals during Ramadan.


Heat. Being in the Persian Gulf ensures that temperatures in the country topping many temperature gauges. The peak of the hot months are July and August and even with airconditioning cannot dissipate the heat. Even water in pipes are boiling hot, so expect the heat to become a crippling issue not just during the day but also during the evenings. Around December and January, the temperature falls to make the city chilly, needing heat indoors in some instances.

Internet. Like many other traditional Muslim countries, there are restrictions on sites people can visit online. The social scene online though is vibrant with even an online Indian community right in Qatar. Facebook is also another site in the Web that many Indians in Qatar go to for interaction and socialization.

Safety. This is generally a safe country with low crime rates. While there are many low level crimes, there is still a relative lack of violent criminality in the country. Police are generally friendly and there is no religious police in the country.

Shopping. The traditional markets and souqs abound in the country. The best one is Souq Waqif and there are many huge malls that offer many wares from all across the world. The malls also have many food courts and indoor activities available for an individual and the whole family.
