Today, there has been an increase in the usage and implementation of such technology mainly due to the increase in the awareness of the striking capabilities of terrorists since the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Centre. There are many different forms of surveillance technology. From example, it can range from portable gadgets such as cameras to computer software and high-end creations such as the satellite. The prominence of surveillance technology today has been the focal point of many debates and I will be touching on the benefits of it.

Surveillance technology enables us to have a better hand in moulding our future generation. It allows us to keep track of what our younger generation is doing, thus allowing us to filter what they are learning. This would ensure that what they are learning is right and does not deviate from social norms. For example, there is this computer software that records down all the websites that a computer has visited and all the instant messages being sent or received. That way, parents are able to know what their children are doing on the internet and prevent them from getting hurt from people with malicious intents such as sexual predators.

Surveillance technology also assists us in maintaining law and order in society. Such technology empowers us to monitor any person's movement, enabling us to identify suspects involved in any misdoing which violates the law. It also deters any other potential criminal from surfacing because they know that their every movement is being monitored. This can be seen in the United States of America, where almost every citizen is being monitored.

In addition, we are able to conserve our earth's resources for our future generations to enjoy. Sometimes, some companies would put profits over environment, thus leading to negligence in waste discharge. This would inevitably pollute the environment. With Surveillance technology, it allows government officials to monitor how much waste each company produces, and how much of that is being processed or thrown away. This leads to better accountability and officials are able to pinpoint which company exceeds the amount of waste that is allowed to be thrown away or emitted.

Indeed, the prominence of surveillance technology has been shown in social, environmental and economical aspects. Many people are also purchasing this sort of technology for such usages as mentioned above through shops and the internet such as technology blogs. Definitely, there have been some abuses of surveillance technology due to the distrust among people. For example, some people engage incell phone spyware to track their spouses SMSes and calls. However, when it is used appropriately, the world will benefit as a whole.
