I wanted to buy my nephew a new laptop as he got prepared for college but I did not know what the best laptops for students were at the time

. So I made it easy on myself and asked him for his list of items of what he thought would make for a good laptop for a student. Here is what he said anyone looking for a laptop needs ask themselves. Read more below.

Question 1- What is the student planning to do with the laptop? Meaning, Are they studying a major that requires heavy usage of the laptop such as a major that requires a lot of writing? How about a computer programming related course? These are a few questions to consider when looking to buy a laptop for a student or even for yourself if you're returning to school.

Question 2- Is it required for the first year student in college? Some colleges require students to have a laptop because lots of college instructors require students to get all of their assignments online and take notes in class for lectures. If this is the case, you might want to look into a mini notebook. These are smaller than the traditional notebook and they are a lot easier to carry around a college or high school campus.

Question 3- How much do you have to spend? I only wanted to spend $1200 for my nephew. But you can find a good laptop for less that $1000 or ever $800. I found one for $856 for my nephew. It came with all of the bells and whistles. Budget is a major issue for many people and it should be. One of the first guidelines you should set are your budget goals. Once you have budget and price in mind it makes it easier to stay focused.
