The Best Self Help Book? 7 Habits of highly effective people summery

7 Habits that the most successful people in the world possess that is explained in Steven Covey's book 7 habits of highly effective people'. The most successful people in the world shows these habits subconsciously and what Steven Covey has done is simplified and combined everything into one of the New York Times best selling books that sold over 10,000 copies from its published date back in 1990. The education learnt from this book does not expire. The habits discussed were effective to the great minds of our past: Benjamin Franklin, Henry Ford, Christopher Columbus, and George Washington just to name a few. In the 7 habits, Steven broke everything down to 7 major chapters. Chapters 1, 2, and 3 deal with mastery within one self. Mastering our subconscious and possessing control over our own domain. Chapters 4, 5, and 6 deals with the people and environment around us. Teamwork, cooperation and communication. A big section details on how we grow from being dependant to being independent to the ultimate goal: interdependence. And the final chapter titled sharpening the saw' takes us back through all of chapter 1 through 6 and ties everything together teaching us how to utilize everything in harmony.

Throughout chapters 1, 2, and 3, Steven elegantly sends readers through a path of the mind, challenging ourselves to truly understand our inner voice. Chapter one talks about being proactive. Getting your tasks done promptly will save yourself the stress that is tied in with procrastination. The joy one feels from having many mini achievements will add up and one day turn into a huge life goal achievement. Begin with the end in mind in chapter 2 asks us the big question: Who do you want to be when you grow up? What do you want to do? Where do you want to live? Chapter 2 shows us how building a blueprint of the mind will map our path to where we want to go in the future. The potential of others swaying our path down to a much darker route is very realistic and should be treated with strong caution. Without creating a blueprint for one self we allow others to set our paths for us. Chapter 3: put first things first. In a world where everyone is always on the go, barely slowing down to smell the roses, we often lose track of where we are going and forget the important things in our lives. Our family, our friends. Important versus urgent. What are the "first things?" First things are those things you, personally, find of most worth. If you put first things first, you are organizing and managing time and events according to the personal priorities you established in Habit 2.

Chapter 3, 4, and 5 are mainly about your interactions with others. Think Win-Win. When presented with an offer, ensure that the offer is a win-win to you and the person that presented you that offer. If a man offers you his whole wealth and he asks for nothing in return, than this would be a win-lose scenario. If a man offers you his whole wealth and asks you to donate a huge sum of money to charities of your choice then the man has got his worth from this deal. Even though this would never happen, this scenario is dubbed win-win when both parties benefit equally from their transaction.

Seek first to understand, then to be understood. A very powerful statement that many great leaders of the world utilize without even knowing of it. In heated arguments, both parties need to be right no matter if they are bluntly wrong. When a person presents a statement: "I understand your situation..... So this is my situation. What can we do to resolve this?" When a person knows that they have been understood, they open their hearts and will listen to whatever you have to say and both parties will have the opportunity to resolve the situation under less stressful circumstances.

Synergize. To put this frankly: "two heads are better than one". In chapter 1, 2, and 3, Steven talks about growth from dependence to independence. Steven takes this one step further and teaches us about interdependence where we utilize the people around us to achieve a greater goal. whether it be our co workers, or friends, or our family, achieving interdependence in a win-win scenario will elevate us past anything we can do while being independent.

Sharpen the saw. Using every 6 habits presented to us day in and day out. Exercising our mind body and soul will lead us to enjoy life in a whole new level. When you master your subconscious, you will never fall prey to procrastination, depression, high stress, and un-fulfillment of life. It doesn't mean that the negative emotions will be gone, but when they do arise, you will have the tools required to fix your problems and move on to enjoying life.
